The helix connects the maintenance/stockyard area with the main station. The center of the helix is also a hatch to access the back portions of this part of the layout.
The helix under construction
The helix is just about finished. Here it is with a train on it for testing. Note that the stockyard has some rolling stock and engines in it now.
