West River

South of the Bonn Hauptbahnhof, the track runs along the west side of the(imaginary) river.

Here is the raw construction with the tracks laid.
Only the upper level is to be visible when we are done.

Here is a picture soon after we started doing the development of this area.
Now there is a small hill in the foreground with a chapel on the crest.
This was our first attempt at using styrofoam and the Woodlands hotwire cutter.
It worked pretty well, and was a lot less messy than plaster, although there are places we will still use plaster as the construction medium. For adding detail above board styrofoam is great, though.

The chapel is a favorite destination for hikers

We have now started building the West River Road which will go into a tunnel under the tracks.

We are using the Woodland Scenics road system here.
This is the raw road with the tape still in place.

Here is the road with the tape removed and a light sanding done.

Here is the road after the topcoat is applied.
We used Woodland's Scenic Road System Top Coat Asphalt #ST1453

Here I have applied the road markings, placed the tunnel mouth and retaining wall.
I used an automotive pin striping tool to mark the road and acrylic gloss white paint.
The tunnel and retaining wall are made of foam board.

Here is how it will look with some traffic.

Here is the area with the plaster applied

Dirt color paint covers the plaster

The hill and tunnel are in place in the corner, the road is finished

Looking the other way back toward the station

Here is the North end of West River finished
