Our trip to Washington State.

These are pictures from our trip to visit some friends who were living in Washington state. We had a horrible time getting this film developed. We had the place reprint them several times, and we tried elsewhere too. They messed up the negatives, and the colors in the printing where all off. The quality of film processing is really getting bad. I could go into a very long diatribe about the phrase American Quality, but I'll bite my tongue. On to the pictures.

This is Deception Pass, the northern access to Whidbey Island. It was so named by early sailing explorers. When they were approaching by sea in their sailing vessel, it looked as though they could sail through the pass. However, it was too shallow and the current was too swift. They wound up smashed on the rocks.

We were lucky enough to see a Bald Eagle floating on a riser over the pass when we crossed the bridge. Quite a sight. And the rest of the traffic was oblivious to it. As typical, they were too busy trying to get where they were going.

On our way to Chuckanut Drive. It's an old indian name, but I don't know for what it stands. This was a pretty drive up the coast of Puget Sound, past Mt. Baker. We were heading to a mall where we could exchange currency for our trip to Victoria, Canada.

A view from Chuckanut Drive. Once we got past the Indian Casinos, we saw vistas like this. This is looking west out into Puget Sound.

This is a view from the ferry boat, crossing Puget Sound, on our way to Victoria, Canada. The boat weaved its way through the San Juan Islands. I was hoping to spot a whale, but never did. I think we were there at the wrong time of year.

The bustling historic center of Victoria, Canada. I believe Victoria is the capital of British Columbia. The flower work on the far embankment spells out Welcome to Victoria.

This is one of the Washington State Ferries' boats, the Evergreen State. You drive your car in and park it, then you can go upstairs to the lounge. They have a cafeteria and a duty free shop.

The only picture I have of Mt. Baker. Really, there's a mountain in the center of this photo. The developers really messed up the coloration on this one. The Sun was setting, but it was behind us. The sky in the picture should be a darkening blue, with the mountain illuminated by the Sun.

We also made it to Mt. Rainier, and got to play in the snow in July. This was quite a hike from where we were staying on Whidbey Island, I think it was a four hour drive one way, and we made it a day trip.
