I like to travel. Luckily for me, so does my wife. There's a BIG planet out there, and I aim to see as much of it as I can. But, my lament is that I only have two weeks of vacation in a year. It doesn't go really far. Oh well. We also seem to go places that the normal American from the north-east US does not. On many occasions we get weird looks from folks here, they wrinkle their noses and ask "why'd you go there???"
Anyway, click on any of the following pictures to see my writeup about each trip. Once in the travel pages, you can click on the pictures to get a larger version. These are some of the places where I've been and would rather be right now. Here we go!
The British Virgin Islands, May 1995
This was our honeymoon. I think I surprised everyone in that we weren't
going someplace cold and snowy. Well, I like to surprise folks. We spent
a week here, and it was nice to get away from traffic and mobs of people.
Washington State, US, July 1996
We took a few days off and went to Washington State over the Fourth of July,
1996. We had some friends living out there at the time, and went to visit.
It was a quick trip, but we managed to see bits of Canada, Seattle, and
Mt. Rainier.
Arizona, US, March 1997
We had a friend get married in Chandler, which is a suburb of Phoenix, so
we took a week off from work and made a proper trip of it. I'm glad we did,
cause I rather enjoyed Arizona. Being a cold weather fan, I probably would
have never gone there otherwise. The weather in March was quite comfortable.
Poland, Austria, and Germany, September 1998
Our first European adventure together. Also, our first two week vacation.
This was a whirlwind tour of three European countries. We cut a swath from
the northeastern corner of Poland down to and across Austria, and then ended
in Munich, Germany.
Berlin, Germany and Prague, the Czech Republic, New Years 1998/9
This was a spontaneous lark we went on. The company I worked for at the time
shut down between Christmas and New Years, so we decided to vacate the country
again. This picture has special importance to me, since the last time I had
seen the Brandenburg Gate, it had a wall around it.
Florida, US, April 1999
San Fransisco, CA, US, December 1999
Colorado, US, May 2000
Germany, September 2000
Niagara Falls, Canada, New Years 2000/1
British Virgin Islands, May 2001
Ok, so I'm a little behind.
Australia, March 2001
We saved up our vacation time and took one of those big two week trips.
We covered a lot of ground here, Sydney, Cairns, Kangaroo Island, Barossa,
and the Great Ocean Road among other places. The flight itinerary
was so thick, they couldn't staple it at the ticket counter.
In progress sort of. Well, I will get back to it later...
Switzerland, September 2001
This was supposed to be a week trip to Switzerland with a couple of stops
in Germany. We wound up spending a night in Iceland. Tough weather, but
a great time nonetheless. Visited a geothermal spa, stood on the tops
of Alps, and partook in several wine festivals.
Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, and Italy, April 2002
Yet another tough weather trip. Rained for a little almost every day. Still,
we had a fun time. We took another couple with us, and I think they enjoyed
themselves too. Gave them a European sampler tour that went from Munich
beerhalls to the Adriatic Sea, and even inluded tiny Liechtenstein.
One side note. These pictures look really good on my monitor, but I am finding that on some monitors they are quite dark. I'm not sure how to address that.
